TENS for Pain?

by Berkeley Wellness

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) involves wearing a small, battery-powered device over the painful area that delivers mild electrical currents to nerves there when you feel pain.

Early studies of TENS lent support to the idea that the electrical impulses somehow interfered with the body’s pain perception mechanisms, but more recent research has cast doubt that TENS is any more effective than a placebo.

A 2008 review of the literature by the Cochrane Collaboration concluded that the effectiveness of TENS for pain control remains uncertain.
