Hypertension On the Rise

by Berkeley Wellness

Two out of three Americans over 60 have hypertension, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as does one out of three people ages 40 to 60. What’s more, one in 14 Americans ages 18 to 39 has the condition.

As life expectancy has increased and Americans have become heavier in recent decades, hypertension rates have increased.

Treatment rates are up: 82 percent of Americans with hypertension are now aware of it, 76 percent are taking medication for it, and 52 percent have their blood pressure controlled.
