Getting Used to New Eyeglasses

by Berkeley Wellness

If you get new eyeglasses, especially if they are bifocals or multifocal (progressive), take time to get used to them.

While poor vision can lead to falls, people wearing new glasses are at increased risk for falls during the first few months. Multifocal lenses, in particular, can impair depth perception and peripheral vision.

Switching to single-lens distance glasses for outdoor activities can reduce the risk of falls in older people, studies have found.
