The Cleanse Fad

Don’t believe claims that you need to fast or go on various liquid diets to “cleanse” your body and rid it of “toxins.” Your digestive system and your kidneys, liver and lungs are very efficient at cleansing the body. You don’t need to quit eating or purge yourself to help them out.

Weight loss achieved from a day or two of fasting is mostly due to water loss, not loss of fat. Prolonged fasting can result in malnutrition.
