Along with the treatments your doctor recommends for hand arthritis, incorporate these strategies to protect your joints daily:
- Carry heavy bags on your arm rather than with your hand.
- Wrap foam or cloth around the handles of pots, pans, and knives to cushion the grips.
- Get a wheeled carrier to pull heavy items like grocery bags and laundry.
- Replace round faucet handles and doorknobs with lever-style handles, which are easier to turn.
