Mushrooms Can Replace Meat

by Berkeley Wellness

To reduce the amount of meat in burgers and other recipes, blend in diced mushrooms as a substitute for at least half the meat. This greatly reduces the calories and saturated fat in meat-based recipes, as well as providing a savory flavor (called umami) that can help you cut down on salt.

Mushroom cultivation is also far more environmentally friendly than meat production. You can use different types of mushrooms.

The Mushroom Council is promoting this idea as “The Blend” and offers recipes and cooking suggestions on its websites: blenditarian.com and mushroominfo.com.
