Dietary Supplements Can Harm the Liver

by Berkeley Wellness  |

Here's another reason to be wary when it comes to herbal supplements: Many of these products, despite being “natural,” can be toxic to the liver, especially when taken long term or in high doses, according to recent guidelines from the American College of Gastroenterology, which also discuss drugs that can damage the liver.

Herbal products known to harm the liver include chaparral, comfrey, kava, skullcap, yohimbe, and even green tea extract.

Body-building and weight-loss supplements are most often linked to liver damage. In some cases, impurities or toxins are introduced during processing of the products.
