Exercise Improves Urinary Symptoms

by Berkeley Wellness

If you have an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH), staying physically active may reduce the urge to urinate at night (called nocturia), suggests a study published in 2014 in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, which included 28,000 men with BPH.

Men who exercised at least one hour a week were about 13 percent less likely to report having nocturia (defined as waking two or more times per night to urinate) and 34 percent less likely to report severe nocturia (three or more times); the researchers adjusted the data for age and body weight.
