Call your doctor for test results—don’t assume that no news is good news. Many doctors often fail to notify patients of the results because they expect them to return for a follow-up visit or because of some office mix-up.
In some cases, it’s important to have the findings explained to you in person. But if it’s a simple routine test and no follow-up is scheduled, you may have to contact the doctor’s office yourself. It’s your right to ask that a copy of the results be sent to you—or you can ask your doctor to have the lab send you a copy directly. Some test results may be made available to you online.
