Blood Pressure Meds and Dizziness

by Berkeley Wellness

If you take blood pressure medication and sometimes feel dizzy, unstable, lightheaded, or prone to falls, ask your doctor if the drug may be at least partly to blame.

These medications are lifesavers, but they can increase the risk of serious falls, as was confirmed by a study recently in JAMA Internal Medicine, which looked at nearly 5,000 people over age 70 with hypertension. The greatest risk of falling is during the first month or two after starting a new hypertension drug.
