Alcohol and Colorectal Cancer

by Berkeley Wellness

If you have a family history of colorectal cancer, it’s especially important to moderate your alcohol intake. Alcohol is a known risk factor for this cancer.

Recently, a study of 135,000 health-care professionals found that among those with a family history, the heaviest drinkers (at least two standard drinks a day) were twice as likely to develop colorectal cancer as those drinking less.

Alcohol was not associated with increased risk at lower intakes.
