Children and Allergenic Foods

by Berkeley Wellness  |

Q: Should children not be fed highly allergenic foods until they’re a year old?

A: Until fairly recently that was the common wisdom, but it turned out there was no evidence that avoiding such foods past four to six months of age reduces the risk of allergies. In fact, it’s now known that early introduction of highly allergenic foods (at about four to six months) helps promote tolerance of them.
