Improve Your Balance with Yoga

To improve balance, consider yoga. A new systematic review in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine concluded that “yoga may have an overall beneficial effect” on improving balance.

Of 15 studies evaluated, 11 had significant results on at least one balance measure. The studies included 688 healthy people, ages 10 to 93, who did various styles of yoga that incorporated physical postures, not just seated meditation and yogic breathing.

Other studies have shown that yoga can help improve balance in stroke survivors and people with Parkinson’s disease. Of course, many other types of exercise, notably tai chi, also improve balance.
